My First Tarot Deck | The Witches Tarot - The Longer

=========================
The short story: The Witches Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed & Martin Cannon was my first set of Tarot cards.
The longer story: It was sometime in 1998 when I had my first Tarot Reading. My reading was done with the Rider Waite Tarot deck, probably one of the most recognized and popular decks.
Shortly after, perhaps a year or more, I decided to get my own deck and went looking for one that was uniquely different and spoke to me. The search brought me to The Witches Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed and Illustrated by Martin Cannon. The seventh printing from 1998. Truth be told it wasn't until now that I decided to share this story that I paid attention to the origins of the deck because that piece didn't matter to me during my search. What mattered is that the cards felt natural when using them and that the illustrations evoked what a set of Tarot cards should.
An online search appears to indicate that the first printing was in 1989 and that Reed wrote a book to go with the deck called The Witches Tarot. In it, she discusses the meanings of the cards, the Qabalistic Tree of Life, pathworking and other ways to use the Witches Tarot. For me the set of cards is sufficient but perhaps the book might be in my future.
Since then I've acquired a few additional decks that have called me for different reasons which I may share in the future. The Witches Tarot is still one I reference most.
My suggestion for your first set of Tarot cards would be to choose one that calls to you and not by a particular deck's popularity or history.
