Paying more for brown, gooey leaves

It's not your imagination. Bagged salad can get old before its use-by date. We went through major brands, leaf-by-leaf, and found slimy salad and "off" odors - from 1% up to 83% per bag was edible. For fresher, less expensive greens, you may want to forget the bag and toss the salad yourself.
